Gauntlet Loop
A Gauntlet Loop is an agentic workflow in which builders create or revise work and separate fresh-context critics repeatedly judge it against a concrete quality bar until the work meets the bar or a human stops the run.

In plain language
A lead agent breaks a goal into judgeable pieces. Builders make the work, critics who did not create it compare the actual artifact with a clear reference or test, and the next pass addresses the largest remaining gap. The cycle repeats instead of accepting the first plausible result.
Why it matters
The pattern can reduce self-approval and premature stopping in complex agent work. Its value depends on a meaningful bar, real artifact inspection, independent criticism, integration checks, and human control over cost and stopping.
Example
An agent team builds a web application one component at a time. Fresh critics compare each rendered component with an approved reference, builders repair the largest visible gaps, and a final reviewer checks that the separately improved parts work together before the owner accepts the result.
Common misconception
A Gauntlet Loop is not proof that a long or expensive multi-agent run is correct. Weak reference examples, subjective critics, missing tests, shared assumptions, or unbounded iteration can still produce confident failure or wasted effort.
