A Helpful Conversation Is Not Automatically the Right Setting

Labs reference: A Helpful Conversation Is Not Automatically the Right Setting.

A conversation can feel familiar, supportive, and private enough—until the task brings in another person’s record, an unconfirmed claim, or a detail that belongs in an approved process.

The Restaurant Test separates the topic from the setting. A request may be harmless at a private table, inappropriate in a family chat, unclear in a personal consumer account, and appropriate only after an organization confirms a specific approved route.

The exercise is not a list of safe and unsafe places. It is a habit: before sharing, ask who can access the information, what the task truly needs, what remains unverified, and what a safer path would preserve.
