Name the role assigned to a conversational AI system and identify the evidence and boundaries that role requires.
What you will make
A role-and-boundary map for one conversational AI use.
Statements
Use statements such as:
- “My chatbot helps me organize my thoughts.”
- “It knows me better than most people.”
- “I always ask it before making a decision.”
- “It remembers what matters to me.”
- “It never judges me.”
- “I trust it because it is always there.”
- “It helps me prepare before I speak with a professional.”
Roles
Sort each statement into one or more roles:
- Tool.
- Assistant.
- Advisor.
- Tutor.
- Confidant.
- Companion.
- Authority.
- Decision-maker.
- Substitute for human support.
Discussion
Ask:
- What is the system actually being asked to do in this role?
- What evidence supports relying on it for that work?
- What can the system not understand, reciprocate, or be responsible for?
- What information should remain outside the conversation?
- What verification, boundary, alternative, or human checkpoint should come with the role?
The roles are prompts for reflection, not diagnoses. Learners may use a fictional scenario, write privately, observe, or pass.
