Facilitator guide: Improv: Accept, Add, Continue

Preparation and participation

Prepare low-stakes starters and visible boundary controls. Offer speaking, writing, observing, scene-manager, prompt-reader, and timekeeper roles. Let learners set tone, twist intensity, humor, preparation time, and turn length.

Facilitation sequence

Set boundaries; offer a premise; accept one usable part; add one detail; practice a recovery; reflect before observations; choose one change; repeat.

Safety and accessibility

Respect stop and reset immediately. “Accept” never overrides consent. Do not introduce identity-based conflict, romance, violence, private history, or physical contact unless explicitly within an approved context—and keep the default starters free of them. No recording is required. Written and observer routes are complete participation options.

Debrief and evidence of learning

Look for listening, usable additions, boundary maintenance, and recovery. An observer must say whether they used audio, transcript, or notes. Do not grade humor, accent, personality, emotion, or spontaneity.

Timing and materials

Allow 25–40 minutes. Use scene starters, boundary card, optional timer, and notebooks.
