Facilitator guide: Context Cleanup

Labs reference: Facilitator guide: Context Cleanup.

Suggested session: 15–20 minutes: 3-minute packet review, 6-minute sorting and source hierarchy, 6-minute cleanup brief, 5-minute debrief.

Preparation

Provide the fictional project packet and worksheet. Learners may work independently or compare decisions in pairs. A chat tool is optional; the core learning happens before any tool is used.

Facilitation priorities

  • Make the difference between current, authoritative, and merely plausible visible.
  • Treat exclusion and isolation as active safety and quality decisions, not as failures to collect enough context.
  • Ask learners to preserve uncertainty when no source settles a question.
  • Keep the task about the context packet, not about producing a polished invitation or plan.
  • If learners use a live tool, require a restatement check before any downstream request.

Common difficulties

  • Everything looks useful: ask what would materially change the later task and what would add noise or risk.
  • An old draft feels authoritative: ask who approved it and whether a newer source supersedes it.
  • A private detail is treated as helpful: ask whether a fictional, generalized, or omitted version would serve the task.
  • The learner resolves an unknown by guessing: return it to the unresolved-uncertainty field and name the responsible verifier.

Debrief prompts

“Which item could cause the most harm if treated as current?” “What made your source authoritative?” “What did you isolate rather than delete?” “What would a later tool need to know—and what should it not receive?”

Offer a written-only route, read the packet aloud on request, and do not ask learners to disclose personal or organizational context.

Provisional timing for facilitator planning

These inherited estimates are starting points for facilitation, not completion targets for learners. Refine them after observing setup, access needs, discussion, and actual participation.

  • Lab: 15–20 minutes (short: 10; extended: 35)
