Concept dictionary
Larger Business Context
Larger business context is the set of surrounding facts that explain why a process exists: what it feeds, what feeds it, who relies on its output, and what decision or obligation created it in the first place. Gathering it means looking one step beyond the process itself — not mapping the whole organization.

In plain language
Think of a process as one part of a larger story. Larger business context identifies what surrounds the process—what it supports, what depends on it, and why it exists—without expanding the review into a map of the whole organization.
Why it matters
A process may look necessary when viewed alone but outdated, duplicated, or misaligned when viewed in context.
Limited context helps explain why the process exists and who depends on it.
Example
A monthly reconciliation spreadsheet was created years ago because two systems did not sync reliably. The sync issue was later fixed, but the spreadsheet remained.
