In plain language
A communication gap means someone or something that needs information does not receive it when it can still help. The information may be missing, delayed, sent through the wrong channel, or unavailable to the next person in the workflow.
Why it matters
Communication gaps often cause delays, rework, customer confusion, and avoidable escalations.
They can also make a process look unreliable even when people are working hard.
Example
A technician texts a job update to one office employee, but the update is not visible to the person who answers customer calls.
Common misconception
A communication gap is not always caused by someone forgetting to communicate. The workflow or tool may make the information difficult to capture, find, trust, or pass forward.
